Group membership: Discord roles → VRChat group membership¶
Put linked members into additional VRChat groups when they hold a Discord role, and take them out again when they lose it. Set it up on the dashboard's Role Sync → Group membership page. Your logged group is not affected: group membership is for the extra groups a community runs, such as a staff or event-crew group.
Requirements¶
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Your access | Administrator to connect groups and edit rules; Manage Server or higher to view. |
| Your VRChat account | Linked in LogDog, and an owner or administrator of the group you connect. |
| LogDog in VRChat | A role in the group with Manage Invites and Remove Members (and Assign Roles once a Discord role gives a VRChat role), ranked above the members it manages. |
| LogDog in Discord | Access to member and role information. |
| Plan | Free: 1 additional group giving up to 3 VRChat roles. Premium: 5 groups giving up to 10 VRChat roles each. |
Set up account linking first: only members with a linked VRChat account are ever added or removed. See the permissions matrix for platform-specific access.
Connect a group¶
- Open Role Sync → Group membership for your server.
- Paste the group's id or its vrchat.com link and select Connect group.
- LogDog checks that your linked account owns or administers the group, then asks to join it with the account it uses for your server.
- Accept the join request in VRChat, create or pick a role for LogDog's account with Manage Invites and Remove Members, and place it above the roles of the members it should manage.
The card shows where the group stands: checking ownership, waiting to join, joined, or missing a permission. While a permission is missing, LogDog checks again about every 10 minutes; once everything is in place it rechecks daily, and it tells you in the dashboard and your notification channel when a permission goes missing.
Write the rule¶
Each connected group has one rule:
- Discord roles that put a linked member in this group. Up to 25 roles; holding any of them qualifies. Each role can also give a VRChat role in the group (see below), or No VRChat role to only let its holders in.
- How they join. Approve their join request (recommended) waits for the member to ask to join in VRChat and approves it. Send an invite invites them as soon as they qualify.
- Removal. Off never removes anyone. Remove members LogDog added removes only members LogDog itself put in the group when they lose the roles. Remove any linked member also removes linked members who joined on their own.
Members without a linked account are never touched, and LogDog never removes the group's owner or anyone it cannot outrank.
Give VRChat roles in the group¶
Each Discord role in the rule can give one of the group's own VRChat roles, for example Discord Moderator gives VRChat Mod and Discord Admin gives VRChat Admin. Pick the VRChat role next to the Discord role when you edit the rule. Free servers can give 3 VRChat roles per group; Premium gives 10.
- A role made in VRChat after LogDog last read the group shows once you select Read the roles again under the list.
- Members get the VRChat role when they gain the Discord role, or as soon as they enter the group: right after LogDog approves their request, or within minutes of accepting an invite.
- Give roles to: Everyone linked in the group (the default) or Only people LogDog let in.
- Take roles back: Only roles LogDog gave (the default) takes back only what LogDog handed out. Any matching role also takes a listed VRChat role from linked members who no longer hold the Discord role, even when someone gave it by hand.
- LogDog's role needs Assign Roles as well, and must rank above every role it gives. Members who rank at or above LogDog are skipped. Until Assign Roles is granted, role changes wait; members are still let in and removed meanwhile.
- Taking roles back waits for the applied preview, like removals. Switching to Any matching role asks for a new preview first.
- Removing a Discord role from the list, or setting it to No VRChat role, leaves the VRChat roles already given where they are.
Preview before anything happens¶
Saving a rule changes nothing at first. LogDog reads the group from VRChat and writes a preview of what it would add and remove, and which VRChat roles it would give or take back, shown on the group's card within a minute. Select Apply preview to accept it: LogDog starts the changes within a minute, and from then on the rule acts. Widening a rule later, for example turning removals on, asks for a new preview first. When LogDog reads the group again while a preview waits, it checks the preview against what it found, and Apply preview waits until that check is done.
Sync now¶
Sync now on a group's card reads the group from VRChat again and runs that rule's daily sync within a minute instead of waiting for the next pass. On a rule whose preview is not applied yet, it writes the preview. Each group accepts one queued sync at a time.
What happens after setup¶
- Gaining a qualifying Discord role invites the member or approves their request, depending on the rule.
- Losing every qualifying role removes them, by the rule's removal setting.
/unlinkand leaving the Discord server count as losing the roles.- A daily sync catches anything the live updates missed. A removal it finds on its own is confirmed by a second pass before it is queued.
Removal safeguards¶
LogDog removes at most 10 members per group per hour. When a rule reaches that ceiling in two hours running, removals for that group stop and the dashboard tells you; save the rule again to resume. The Activity table on each card shows what LogDog did, for whom, and why anything was skipped or held.
Remove a group¶
Remove group on the card disconnects it. LogDog takes back its pending invites, leaves the group, and keeps the members it added in place. Remove them in VRChat if you also want them out.
Troubleshooting¶
The Diagnostics page lists every connected group with its standing, LogDog's rights there, and how fresh its member list is. A group marked rights missing names the permission to grant. If VRChat refuses a removal because the member outranks LogDog's role, raise that role or manage the member in VRChat.
